It must be me, but it seems like Toyota is becoming really really good at taking the interior of a very large car, and making it feel very very small.

The IS is tiny, or at least appears as such whenever I see them. I think you’re mistaking Lexus for Ford’s work on the Taurus.

The IS a small car, but I kind of get what you are saying. A lot of people say its a tight fit in the new XC90. It’s a awesome interior (one of the best) but it does feel crampy. Maybe because of all the safety stuff stuffed into the panels lol :]

No one can top what Ford did to the Five Hundred-er-Taurus...

But still, the ISes I see in the parking deck at my office aren’t small...It’s not like driving a MkIV Jetta.

My cousin has one of these and the inside is boss. The tech is top notch. Made my new A4 feel old.

The user interface for the nav/radio controls is really cool. There’s this analog joystick that has force feedback that changes based on what menu is active. For example, when a number pad is active, the joystick “clicks” into each position. When the Nav is active, the mouse is free to roam, but clicks into functions along the side of the screen. Very slick.

The analog tack in the center mechanically slides to the right to reveal additional menu items when the steering wheel controls are used. Gimmicky, sure. But it was neat.

There are also a host of functions that can be enabled via the iphone app, like remote start and adjusting comfort controls.

Some people can’t get over the styling. Personally, I love it. It think these are great looking cars. And the tech is cool.

Just realized you wrote tach instead of tech. Either way, the tach is rad.

The heater control valve in the E46 is acting up this morning, so I was looking for newer cars and I really like the interiors on these fancy Toyotas. There are quite a few used GS350s for sale with a very similar interior, but I would want the gimmicky tach just for shits and giggles.

You’ve got to have the F-Sport package to get the LFA dials though.

I’m, impatiently, waiting on the IS350 F-Sports to go below $30k. Or a decently low-ish mile GS350 F-Sport to hit that price mark.

Probably.

And the IS being small? It’s just small compared to everything else Lexus sells :)

Yeah, the GS350 interiors are the shit. The RWD F-Sport versions also have rear-wheel steering, which is pretty neat for a vehicle that isn’t a 911.

If you can wait another 3-4 years though, the new facelifted GS350 F-Sports come with the same tach upgrade as the IS 350 F-Sports.

IIRC you can get cooled seats on the GS350 F Sport, but not on the IS350 F Sport. It boggles my mind that Lexus thinks that people who want cool tech in the F Sport package don’t also want cool bums.
